As of Monday 1 June 2026, restricted access will apply to the road outside the school at the following times:
-
Morning: 8:20am – 9:05am
-
Afternoon: 3:00pm – 4:00pm
During these periods, motor vehicle access without exemptions permit will not be permitted. Please see the map below for details of where the road restrictions start and finish.
The
School Street Trial is being implemented to create a safer, healthier environment outside the school gates by restricting motor vehicle access at the busiest times of the school day. With many people driving to school, congestion and road safety issues occur as well as inconsiderate or even illegal parking. When we drive short distances that could be cycled or walked, we also contribute to the air pollution and climate change problems we are facing. By walking, cycling, or scooting instead there are less cars at the school gates, which makes it safer for children. It can also make a positive difference to climate change and reduce air pollution. Walking and cycling are also great ways to get some exercise which in turn helps with our mental wellbeing.
How will the restriction be enforced?
The trial will operate using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera technology. Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) will be issued to any motor vehicles that enter or exit the School Streets zone during the restricted times without a valid exemption.
Who is exempt?
Exemption permits are only available to:
-
Residents who live within the School Streets zone
-
School staff
-
Blue Badge holders who need to access the school
-
Parents or Carers of pupils with additional needs, on a temporary (e.g. broken leg) or permanent basis, who need to be driven into the school
Emergency (blue light) vehicles are exempt and will not receive Penalty Charge Notices.
All other vehicles driven by visitors, parents, and delivery vehicles will not be permitted to enter the zone during the closure.
To apply for an exemption permit, please contact the school office.
Travel advice during School Street operating times
-
Where possible, plan to walk, cycle or scoot to school and allow time to make your way to and from the school.
-
If you need to drive your child to school due to distance and/or onward travel to work please use the Park & Stride site at the village Museum Car park, it’s a short 6 minute walk to the school. If your child has a scooter they could scoot from the car park.
-
Alternatively, use the Active Travel zone map found on our Active Travel page and park somewhere else outside the 5-minute zone and walk the remaining distance to school.
-
If you need to drive to school, note there is no access to the school from the Beckspool Road during the restricted times.
-
Access to the Frenchay Park estate during closure periods should be via Bristol Road (B4058) and Alexander Road.
-
If you need to park on residential streets, please do so both lawfully and considerately avoiding parking on pavements, dropped kerbs, blocking driveways and parking on corners or close to junctions.
-
You are advised not to enter, exit, or move vehicles within the School Streets zone during the restricted times, as this will result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued.
