The Koinonia of Frenchay
Our mission was to create a brand for Frenchay C of E Primary School that reflects the remarkable aspects of the school. The design is to be bold, modern, and provide a great insight into the caring and village environment we deliver, the eco-friendly global aspect of the school and the Christian values that underpin everything we do.
We wanted to develop a colour palette based on the colour schemes which will be used in and around the new school building, but it was important to ensure a deep navy blue is within the palette as this will align with the school uniform colour. The overall brand should represent people, the world and Christianity.
Frenchay’s Remarkable
What makes us remarkable is the relationships we build with people within our community to create the caring and loving village environment we deliver. Everyone within our community is valued and cared for as if they were part of our own family, and this acceptance of people’s differences ties very well into our strapline of ‘Believe, Belong, Become’.
Children are enabled to ‘Believe’ in who they are, they ‘Belong’ to a village and community of people that care and nurture them so they’re able to ‘Become’ the best version of themselves.
Another key aspect is that when a child first attends our school they’re asked to pick a pebble and place it in the Koinonia bowl. Koinonia means community (fellowship) and the Koinonia bowl represents us, Frenchay. Each unique pebble that is added to that bowl represents a child or member of staff and provides the beautiful message that even though we’re all different, we all belong to a community that accepts us, loves us, and ultimately wants us to achieve and succeed.
It felt appropriate that as we have moved into a passivhaus building, the world is also part of our new logo. Our curriculum focuses on a global dimension in term 5 and 6, preparing our children in the knowledge and skills they need to help protect the world we have. Important as we look to them to become our future leaders.
Colour Palette
The suggested colour palette has been developed around the colour scheme provided and the colour of the uniform; but also with the psychology of colour in mind and how it relates to the personality and character of our school.
Blue is the colour of trust, serenity, and peace. It suggests loyalty and integrity. It is calming, reducing tension and fear while inspiring wisdom and higher ideals, it seeks peace and tranquillity above everything else, promoting both physical and mental relaxation.
Green is a colour of balance, harmony and growth. It lends us a clearer sense of right from wrong since green incorporates a balance of both the logical and emotional. Green is one of the most seen colours in nature reflecting life, rest, peace and being eco-friendly.
Yellow with it being the lightest hue of the spectrum is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope and happiness. It’s a warm and happy colour that creates a sense of cheerfulness and brightens people’s spirits.
Brown delivers a sense of strength and reliability. Brown is often seen as solid, much like the earth, and it’s a color often associated with resilience, dependability, security, and safety.
The Final Design
Each pebble within the logo reflects a different child and or member of staff within our Koinonia bowl (community).
The overall shape represents the world (globe) and the pebbles create different countries within it; which aligns with our ethos around diversity and everyone being accepted for their differences as well as our eco-friendly environment.
Lastly the cross within the middle wraps around the logo as our Christian values underpin everything we do.
